Players Show Off Their Skills at Triple Threat Manila 3x3 Ultimate Showdown Tournament

Players from various regions of the Philippines came together as a team to show off their talents in playing the sport they truly loved in the Triple Threat Manila 3x3 Ultimate Showdown Tournament, held at the College covered courts of the Ateneo University last September 16, 2017. Their perseverance and passion manifested as they dribble and shoot the ball and from the minute they arrived the court, their faces showed how excited they were to play and represent their teams despite the anxiousness of competing with players with different level of skills.

Opening ceremonies guest Danny Siegle, 1999 PBA Rookie of the Year, 4-time PBA Finals MVP, 2-time best player of the conference and 8-time PBA Champion, inspired the participants with words of wisdom for the one-day tourney. The 128 players then were all set for a war in the half court. So as the games moved on the young aspiring athletes (18 Under) and agile veterans (Open Men) huddled up and patiently waited for their teams to be called for a hard court just.

Team Unnotified swept their division boasting a 6 out of 6 record, led by Lance De Leon who finished with a total of 30 points for the entire series (number 1 in scoring). Second place MRHS Vanguard A scored finished the rankings with only two losses and was led by Nathiel Del Pilar who punched in 27 monster points in all the games. On the side of the spectrum, The Espana boys also swept the competition winning 6/6 games led by Ace Gocuan who finished with a total of 51 points (number 1 in scoring). 2nd place Pound Congressional only had two losses led by the intense scoring of Reiner Hipolito who scored a total of 47 points.

Finals MVP for Open Men went to Jomari Beredo of team Espana who clocked in 10 pts 1 steal and 2 rebounds against rival Pound Congressional. Finals MVP for 18 and under Lance De Leon finished with 7 points 1 rebound and 1 block against a grueling match against MRHS Vanguard A.

After the sky has finally cleared everyone was pleased with the successful event of Triple Threat Manila. Most of the team captains and players said that they hope for more events like this in the future as it gives the youth and adults the chance to experience an organized 3x3 FIBA-endorsed basketball game with some even envisioning themselves as participants in the international stage. The satisfaction of having played and the lingering taste of adrenaline manifested with each smile in the court and so though some have failed to grab the championship title every team took home with them the experience and the new friendships built.
