PBA Name Change: Move Over Chooks to Go, Magnolia is the New Manok ng Bayan
Star Hotshots changed their name to Magnolia Hotshots for the upcoming 43rd Season of the PBA
The start of the new season means a new look for a team that's was formerly known as the Star Hotshots.
Star Hotshots is one of the popular teams in the PBA but lately, they have been having issues as they have underperformed in the last season.
With the upcoming season just around the corner, the Purefoods franchise made a big announcement to change their name as they represent the new "Manok ng Bayan". The team will now represent the chicken brand of the company and their name will be "Magnolia Hotshots".
The Purefoods management announced the news on Monday in a press conference at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
“It’s a challenge for the team because every time we switch names, we always become champions,” said Magnolia team manager Alvin Patrimonio.
“It’s an exciting season again with a new logo and a new team name.” Coach Chito Victolero said that the Hotshots are more than ready to live up to the task as they enter the 43rd season of the PBA with high expectations.
The name change was unexpected and the choice of the brand was somewhat surprising especially since Chooks to Go has made their intention public to join the PBA soon.
The Magnolia name has been used by SMB in the past.
