As it turns out, Terrence Romeo has already played his last game with the Global Port Batang Pier.

To begin with, Romeo's name had been on the trade rumors since last year despite missing a big chunk of last season due to injury. Back then, the Batang Pier management continuously denied such rumors. There was no truth to those rumors, they said.

Until now.

In a trade deal that is both surprising and not, the Global Port Batang Pier has finally parted ways with their longtime superstar after trading Terrence Romeo to the Talk N Text KaTropa along with Yousef Taha in exchange for Moala Tautuaa and two future draft picks. Incidentally, TNT has been one of the teams that have been rumored to be making the moves to acquire Terrence Romeo so this deal only put some sense into those rumors that we've been hearing over the course of the last few months.

A win-win trade for both teams

One way or another, this deal will benefit both TNT and Global Port, especially in the long run. For TNT, having Terrence Romeo on board will mean Jayson Castro gets another superstar teammate and can form a deadly trio alongside a healthy Troy Rosario. Just imagine the damage that can be inflicted by a backcourt duo of Romeo and Castro.

For Global Port, parting ways with the three-time scoring champion can restore peace in the team as Terrence Romeo was recently involved in a heated argument against Head Coach Pido Jarencio. And with 2 future picks from the KaTropa, the Batang Pier can use those picks to get fresher players in 2020 and 2021.

Conclusion

While the Batang Pier will lose Terrence Romeo's scoring brilliance, this deal will also enable Pido Jarencio to furthermore develop his younger players. For now, Stanley Pringle will take over a big chunk of the scoring and play setting responsibilities and he has been doing so almost during the entire Philippine Cup while Romeo was still recovering from his injury. If anything, this deal could be a blessing in disguise for Global Port.

For TNT, seeing Terrence Romeo team up with Jayson Castro is a delicious picture that it's almost impossible to imagine. But now that the trade has been approved, the question now looms: can they actually work together? That remains to be seen in the mid-season Commissioner's Cup.
