PASCAL TOO TOUGH FOR "BAD" CHAD; DEFEATS DAWSON VIA TECHNICAL DECISION

He may have had the better technical skills, but he wasn't the tougher fighter as "Bad" Chad Dawson simply wasn't good enough to handle the attack of WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal. Using the size of the ring to his advantage, Pascal avoided any serious damage from the outside by simply keeping his distance before leaping in and out with quick combinations, outhustling and outworking Dawson. Pascal began to fade towards the end, allowing the challenger to land some serious shots that appeared to rock the champion at times, but Dawson simply couldn't pull the trigger enough to capitalize, letting Pascal off the hook time and time again. When Dawson finally did appear to get the upper hand in the 11th round, a clash of heads would open up a cut over his right eye, forcing the doctor to call a halt to the fight. Jab lands for Pascal. Another. Dawson lands a backhand and a right to the body. Pascal lands a left hook and circles away. Quick right hook upstairs lands for Dawson. Nice 4-punch combo to the body lands for Dawson, but Pascal BLASTS him with a a left down the middle. Dawson holds on for dear life. He's hurt. Pascal digs to the body on the inside. Right hand lands for Pascal again. Round to Pascal.

Pascal jumps on Dawson and lands a series of hard shots to the body and a right upstairs. Dawson covers up against the ropes. Pascal continues to fire shots. Dawson lands a right hook in return. Dawson comes out firing and lands a nice combo in the corner. Pascal just covers up along the ropes. Dawson still firing and blasts him with some shots down the middle. Pascal continues to just cover up. He looks tired. Dawson letting him off the hook though as Pascal retreats and gets some rest. WOOOOOO...HARD uppercut lands for Dawson that freezes Pascal in his tracks. Dawson lets him off the hook again though by not jumping on him. Right hand lands for Pascal. They clash heads and Dawson has a nasty cut that's bleeding pretty bad. Pascal will get some much needed rest now. That's it. It's over. The doctor stops the fight. They'll go to the scorecards and the judges will score that last round. I give it to Dawson.

"That was a step up for me...Chad Dawson is still one of the best fighters in the world...I knew I was faster, clever, better footwork...I knew with my speed and being smart in the ring, I could beat Chad Dawson," stated Pascal. "If Lucian Bute wanna fight me, he has to challenge me...I want the best in the world. Hopkins, Calzaghe, everybody...Jean Pascal is about to invade America," he continued. "I got a rematch clause, so we definitely going to do it again," Dawson would comment, believing that he had an opportunity to stop Pascal prior to the headbutt happening. "He was headbutting me all night...I'm not making any excuses...I didn't complain to the ref not one time," he added. "I was on the way to stopping him, as you could see, and he knew that." It should be noted that HBO's Larry Merchant revealed that Pascal is allowed to take another fight prior to the rematch happening. Although most would assume his next fight will be against current WBA champion and fellow Canadian Lucian Bute, don't be surprised to see light heavyweight king Bernard Hopkins licking his chops for an opportunity to travel across the border to face Pascal.
