John Wall Retires from the NBA

Five-time NBA All-Star John Wall has officially announced his retirement from basketball.

Wall, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, became the face of the Washington Wizards for nearly a decade. Known for his lightning speed, flashy passes, and ability to take over games, he leaves the Wizards as the all-time leader in assists and steals. His best season came in 2016–17 when he averaged 23.1 points and 10.7 assists per game and was named to the All-NBA Third Team.

Wall also had short stints with the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers, but injuries—including knee issues and a ruptured Achilles—slowed down much of his later career.

At 34 years old, Wall says he is stepping away from the court but not from the game. He has already found a new role in broadcasting, joining Prime Video’s NBA coverage team.

Good luck to John Wall in his next chapter. From dazzling fans with his speed to leading Washington through its best runs in years, he leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered.
