Arum: Cotto's surgery won't postpone Chavez battle

According Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, an operation on the right shoulder of WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28KOs) will not postpone a planned fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., which is tentatively scheduled for December 4 at New York's Madison Square Garden.

 




Although the Puerto Rican champion made a statement regarding the possible inability to train until November, Cotto's lawyer, Gabriel Peñagaricano, informed Arum that he is confident the fight against Chavez (40-0-1, 30 KOs) will proceed as planned on the December date.

"According to Gabby, the operation should not affect in any way Miguel Cotto's ability to fight Julio Cesar Chavez on Dec. 4," said Arum. "Gabby is the lawyer and adviser of Miguel Cotto. His official adviser already has made that statement about the operation, which was a few weeks ago."
