The Philippines leaned on its quickness to overpower a hapless Iran squad, 28-19, Sunday to assure of at least a 10th place finish in the three-on-three basketball competition of the 2010 Youth Olympic Games at the *Scape Youth Space courts.
Bobby Ray Parks, Jr., son of former many-time PBA Best Import Bobby, Sr., knocked down 10 points, including a pair of booming triples, as the Nationals won for the second straight time after losing three straight games.
The win was a huge follow-up to their win over South Africa the other day.
Cris Michael Tolomia, whose brother Chester is a former pro, scattered nine points while Michael Pate and Jeron Teng, son of former PBA star Alvin, chipped in five and four points, respectively, to help the RP cause.
It was the Nationals’ aggressive defense though that kept them on top of the situation as they made nine gift shots, five of which came from the 6-foot-5 Parks.
The win thus placed the Philippines in an interesting showdown with Puerto Rico, another traditional powerhouse team, which edged Turkey, host of the FIBA World Championship late this month, for ninth place.
