WEC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz is expected to face top challenger Scott Jorgensen next, but the two fighters are going to need to consult their doctors before scheduling a fight.
Cruz and Jorgensen were among 11 fighters medically suspended following WEC 50, which took place Aug. 18 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today received the list of medical suspensions from Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer.
NSAC doctors suspended both Cruz and Jorgensen for a maximum of 180 days, though each can be cleared early with a negative x-ray. The concern with Cruz is a possible fracture of his right hand. Jorgensen's suspension is due to a potential break of his left hand.
Cruz broke his left hand in his March win over Brian Bowles.
WEC 50 lightweight winners Bart Palaszewski and Danny Castillo also received 180-day suspensions, though each can be cleared early by doctors. Shane Roller, who was defeated by Anthony Pettis, was also issued a 180-day suspension due to a potential injury to his left knee.
