LeBron James to Court: This Guy Ain't My Dad

Source:  The Daily Heat

A filing on behalf of Miami Heat superstar LeBron James asks a Washington D.C. court to dismiss Leicester Stovell's claim that he is James' long-lost biological father, according to multiple reports.

The filing states that Stovell has “delusions” about his ties to the family and is merely using it as a ploy for financial gain. The paperwork, submitted on behalf of James and his mother Monday, contradicts a pending lawsuit initiated by Stovell that claims James and his mother are covering up his paternity by committing fraud and misrepresentation.

The 14-page document says Stovell had not proven any statement he made during his initial June 23 complaint. James’ lawyers said this was merely an attempt to capitalize on James’ fame and money, calling the entire thing a “fanciful hope for celebrity.”

In his initial lawsuit against James and his mother, Stovell claimed he met James' mother in a Washington bar in 1984. The two reportedly spent the night together when she was 15 or 16 only to later part ways. Some months after, James’ mother allegedly informed him that she was pregnant and planning to name the child “LeBron.”

Stovell is demanding an undeclared amount of money in damages because he says he had been trying to establish contact and paternity for many years. He admits doing so would help him in his financial and commercial endeavors.

As a solo legal practitioner in the District of Columbia, Stovell filed the lawsuit on his own behalf. Stovell alleged the DNA tests that show he is not James’ father were tainted and falsified. When James’ lawyers heard this charge, they dismissed it immediately:

"Stovell's claims for millions of dollars from his putative son and Gloria James are based upon rank speculation," said the court filing, "that a man who claims that as a 29-year-old lawyer he got a 15-year-old girl pregnant during a one-night stand and who never contributed a penny in child support would earn millions in commercial endorsements by crawling out of the woodwork after the child he never gave a thought to became an NBA star."
