Orcullo enters World 8-Ball tourney semis
Dennis Orcullo is the last Filipino standing in the World 8-Ball Championship.
With double world champion Ronnie Alcano and upstart Joven Alba bowing out in the tournament after losing in their respective matches, Orcullo hold the fort and defeated Takhti Zarekani, 9-2, in their quarterfinal showdown Friday at the Fujairah Exhibition Center in Fujairah United Arab Emirates.
The win sent the former world No.1 player Orcullo into a semifinal round match with David Alcaide of Spain, a 9-6 winner over former World Straight Ball champion Thomas Engert of Germany.
The other semifinals match will pit former World Ten Ball Champion Darren Appleton of Great Britain against the formidable Neils Feijen of the Netherlands.
Appleton, easily disposed off Alba, 9-2, in their quarterfinal round duel. The Englishman also defeated Alcano in a hill-hill encounter in their Round-of-16 match.
Feijen also battled compatriot Nick van den Berg in a hill-hill encounter before prevailing, 9-8. - Rey Joble, GMA News
