The Worst 3 Point Shooting Ever Caused Gilas Pilipinas to Bow Down to Korea
July 19, 2017. Gilas Pilipinas shoots (1/26) 4% from beyond the arc. Probably the worst three point shooting percentage in recent memory for the Gilas Pilipinas team.
No way a team would win against a tough Korean squad with this type of shooting. That is exactly what happened as South Korea gave the Philippines its second defeat in 5 games. Led by Sekeun Oh who scored 14 points, the Korean cruised to victory and captured their 4th win in five games. They are now in 3rd place behind Canada and Lithuania who got the same record at 4-1 but leads in the ranking due to scoring ratio.
Mike Myers led the Philippines with 18 points and 17 rebounds, Jio Jalalon scored 18 points, while hustle man Christian Standhardiner contributed 16 points. However, the rest of the team was cold especially from beyond the arc. Matthew Wright who was consistent in the first four games went cold scoring only 4 points and not making any three pointers on 7 attempts. It wasn't just him who could not find the bottom of the net. Parks(0/3), Cruz( 0/2), Ravena (0/4), Pogoy( 0/5), Ferrer( 0/3) was all scoreless from beyond the arc. Jalalon was the only one who hit a 3 pointer (1/2).
Gilas Pilipinas is scheduled to play Iraq in their next game.
