Gennady Golovkin Wants Immediate Rematch, If Not, he will fight Miguel Cotto

Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez Fight Was Great But It Did Not Answer the Big Question

Who is the better fighter that night?

Let's start by mentioning the controversial yet official scorecard that night.

Dave Moretti: Golovkin 115- 113
Don Trella: Draw 114 - 114
Adalaide Byrd:  118 -110 (cringe-worthy)

There is a lot to talk about in the scorecard but we are not here to dwell on things that can't be changed. We know the Adalaide Byrd already got warm, I mean really warm with heated greetings from the internet right after her despicable scoring, so let's leave her alone for the moment.

On the post-fight press conference, a rematch was obviously part of the discussion and today it looks like they already scheduled a meeting to sit down and talk in details. Canelo Alvarez has a rematch clause in the contract so he will not have any issues getting Golovkin back inside the ring. However, if he chooses not to get in with the Kazakh fighter again then Golovkin's team would need to find another opponent for his next fight.

Gennady Golovkin at 35 years old isn't exactly young and every month counts. His record now stands at 37 wins with no defeats and 1 draw.  Golovkin's camp is eager to make the rematch and they want to make it happen on Cinco De Mayo next year (May 5, 2018). If an agreement will be made between the two prized fighters, Gennady would rest the remaining of the year until their anticipated rematch.

If it fails, Gennady's camp is ready to take on another fight and they won't wait for a long time to get back in the ring. According to sources,  Miguel Cotto the Puertorican boxing superstar who allegedly intended to have his retirement fight at 36 years of age would like to challenge Gennady for his titles and Gennady's camp looks to be interested. If  Canelo-Golovkin rematch will not be agreed upon then a Cotto-Golovkin match might happen this December.

While the fight between Cotto and Golovkin would be interesting, the boxing fans who demanded the Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin fight did not actually get the closure they wanted to get. And while most would agree that the fight was an epic battle between two of the best middleweights right now, it did not really answer anything as the fans are were just left salivating for more and would like to see the 13th round to maybe up to 24 rounds for the two middleweights to settle who truly is the best of the best.
