Photo and Video Replay: Elorde Boxing a Unanimous Success: Vallespin,Alfante, Emillano and De Paz All Victor

September 30, 2007, at the Grand Flash Ballroom, Elorde International held the quadruple championship boxing event which featured the current local boxing heroes of the Philippines.

Local boxing events usually don't get much media attention but tonight was different as a number of media outlets including Rappler, Sports Radio, and other media companies were present to support and live broadcast the event.

There were a lot of great fights including impressive knockout wins from Ronel Sumalpog and Wowie Campos who both floored their opponent in the first round proving that they have the punching power.

There are, however, four fights I personally liked. Let me itemize them below.

Abaniel Shows wares against Thai in preparation for a title fight.

The fight between Gretchen "Chen Chen" Abaniel and Chamaport Chairin, was actually considered a tune-up fight for a bigger fight that may be held in Macau in the next coming month for Abaniel. Gretchen now at 31 years old has compiled a record of 18 wins and 8 losses and have now won 3 wins in a row after dropping 3 losses. Chen-Chen who originally hails from Puerto Princessa easily defeats the Thai fighter with the score of 60 - 54 by all of the judges.

After the fight, Abaniel noted that she was trying her best to drop her opponent but she was tough. She also mentioned that they were preparing for a fight against an orthodox fighter but it turned out that Chairin was a southpaw.

Too Close, Eranio Semillano sought a Majority Decision

Macrea Gadionco and Eranio Semillano put on a show Saturday night at the Grand Falsh ballroom but while he scored said Semillano is the winner,  Gadionco made it hard for Semillano as he can also claim an emotional win after a losing a close decision that could demand a rematch between two outstanding boxers. The score was 114-114 and two 115-113 as Semillano wins the Philippine Super Flyweight Title.

Taday Stepped Up big time but Alfante is still the Champ.

Reymark Taday of Olivetti Boxing gym was a late replacement of Ardin Diale who failed to secure permission from GAB due to medical reasons. Taday who came in with a four-fight winning streak suffered a loss against Chris Alfante who shake off ring rust after being inactive for awhile. Taday who now holds a boxing record of 8 wins and 3 losses was aggressive and was engaging Chris Alfante into a boxing brawl but Alfante was slicker and more precise as he wins 6 of the scheduled 10 rounds of the fight.

El Matador Defeats Durable Lastikman to retain belt

Lastikman did his best but lack of training and preparation may have cost his demise as he personally tell us after the fight. Allan Vallespin, however, should still get all the credit as he masterfully boxes Lastikman in the much awaited main event last Saturday. Vallespin was throwing bombs and hitting Abila to the face and the body and while in some moments Abila appeared to be hurt, he continues to strive and was able to survive the whole fight.

Vallespin spoke to us after the fight. Watch our interview here.
