Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White is eyeing the international expansion of the reality TV show, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), this year.
White said the expansion will begin in the Philippines.
“This year, I’m probably pretty sure the first one’s going to be in the Philippines," he said in Examiner.com.
White made the announcement during Tuesday’s (Wednesday in Manila) conference call for UFC 127: B.J. Penn vs. Jon Fitch.
TUF is an American reality television series and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition produced by Spike TV and UFC. The show features unknown, professional MMA fighters, and follows them as they train and compete against each other for a prized contract with the UFC.
The show has had 12 seasons since it began in 2005. It helped bring the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) to the mainstream.
"'The Ultimate Fighter" is going to start airing in every country. We’re going to start doing 'The Ultimate Fighter UK,' 'The Ultimate Fighter Canada,' 'The Ultimate Fighter Philippines,' we’re doing it everywhere," White said.
MMA has a strong following in the Philippines partly due to the popularity of UFC.
The Philippines even has a local version of UFC, the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC).
