FIBA and CCTV extend longstanding partnership with new nine-year broadcast agreement

MIES, Switzerland/BEIJING, China - FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, on Wednesday announced it has extended its long-term partnership with Chinese state television broadcaster CCTV (Chinese Central Television) for a further nine years.

The agreement, for the period 2017-2025, involves the linear broadcast rights for all of FIBA's major national team competitions including the FIBA Basketball World Cups 2019 and 2023 and their Qualifiers, the FIBA Asia Cups 2017, 2021 and 2025 and their Qualifiers, the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cups 2018 and 2022, all other FIBA Continental Cups (Men and Women) as well as the FIBA U17 and U19 Basketball World Cups (Men and Women).

Additionally, CCTV will partner with FIBA to provide the production facilities for all of China's national team's Qualifiers games as well as working with FIBA on the production and delivery of the FIBA Basketball World Cups.

Patrick Baumann, FIBA Secretary General and International Olympic Committee (IOC) Member, said: "FIBA is very proud to extend the longstanding relationship it has enjoyed with CCTV dating back to 1994. Through CCTV's broadcast coverage and production facilities, FIBA now has the means for every basketball fan in China to watch live World Cup and Asia Cup games on CCTV and for our popular sport to be showcased in the very best way."

Fang Gang, Deputy Controller of CCTV Sports, said: "CCTV is delighted to be entering into its third decade of partnering with FIBA. FIBA's New Competition System, which begins this year, will present CCTV with the opportunity to regularly showcase China's participation in FIBA events starting with the FIBA Asia Cups (Men and Women) in July and August, leading up to the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in 2018 and the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2019 and beyond. CCTV will enhance its cooperation with FIBA comprehensively on all levels, not only to deliver the very best live action to all basketball fans in China, but to get involved more, and collectively promote the FIBA events in the Chinese market."

The agreement was brokered by FIBA Media, the strategic partnership between FIBA and Perform, which has now secured long-term agreements in China for both live linear and digital broadcast of FIBA's major competitions. This will result in unprecedented coverage of FIBA international basketball in China over the nine-year period.
